New England Journey (Nonet)
composed 2002

premiered by the
Moores School Wind Quintet and strings

18 minutes

This is a programatic piece recreating the sounds and feelings I had on a first trip with my wife to New England. The work is in three movements.

Score and parts available.

I. in the Berkshires is a walk through Tanglewood. Rustic barns and beautiful landscapes are a backdrop for the sound of music being rehearsed.

II. around Waldon is a discovery piece inspired by a walk around Waldon pond. Hidden in the very back are the remains of Henry David Thoreau's cabin.

III. through Boston is the chaotic setting of downtown Boston.

recorded in studio by members of the
Houston Symphony
Mark Powell, conductor
